- In September 2008, we partnered with the Renton School District and the Communities in Schools of Renton to distribute backpacks of food to children at risk of hunger over the weekends.
- Hungry children suffer from health problems such as unwanted weight loss, fatigue, headaches and frequent colds.
- They are more likely to be ill and absent from school and typically cannot concentrate or do as well as others when they are at school.
- With this new program, backpacks filled with 6 kid-friendly meals are delivered to the schools for check-out on Fridays and are returned by the students on Monday.
No cost for kids. The Salvation Army pays $12.00/backpack/week/child.
